+ Why does the same problem get a different answer in different states?
Because the code, the climate and the covering differ. Hail-belt shingle roofs are judged on impact damage and wind uplift. Florida tile roofs are judged on underlayment life and product approval, with extra rules inside the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone. Minnesota roofs are judged on snow load, ice damming and ventilation. Low-slope roofs in Arizona are judged on UV and monsoon drainage.
+ What should I do while I wait for a visit?
Move what you can out from under the leak, put a bucket where water lands rather than against a wall, and photograph everything before you tidy up. If water is near a light fitting or a switch, stop using that circuit. If the ceiling is bulging, do not stand under it. Do not climb onto a wet roof.
